What is TAGteach and What Will it Do for Me?

TAGteach is Teaching with Acoustical Guidance. It's a revolutionary teaching and coaching method that gives you the tools to simplify your instructions, use fewer words and get better, faster results. You will be able to communicate more effectively with your child, whether verbal or non-verbal. TAGteach empowers you to teach the way your child needs to be taught, with clear goals, immediate feedback from a sound marker and success at each step.

“TAGteach gave me confidence so I didn’t panic. I had been worried about [the blood tests] for about two weeks. TAGteach gave me a coping strategy by being able to build up my [non-verbal] daughter’s experience to be ready for it."
Seany Pogson (Autism Dad)

I am on the Autism Spectrum. I’m both high and low functioning but have achieved a level of integration in ‘normal’ or neurotypical society because of my higher functioning attributes. It has been a difficult path to walk alone though. If TAGteach had been around when I was a kid I may have a had an even more successful, less frustrating, anxiety ridden childhood and been a higher achiever than I currently am.”
Katie Scott-Dyer

The Problem: Difficult Behaviours, Trouble Communicating, Won't Pay Attention

As an autism parent or ABA therapist you may struggle with difficult behaviors such as screaming, running off, self injury or inattention to what you are trying to teach. It may seem that the child is not paying attention, not cooperating or not understanding what you want him to do. You may feel frustration at repeating the same things over and over with little or no improvement. Or you may be having good success with your teaching, but feel that the child has much more potential, if only you could tap into it.

The Solution: Communicate so that the Child Understands and Responds

TAGteach provides the solution to these problems by providing a structured way to break down skills or behaviour, to identify the point of success for your child, to reduce your language to the smallest key point and to reinforce the correct movements or behaviour with laser precision. TAGteach lessons are fun and fast-moving, keep the child moving forward as quickly as he is able and maintain the child's attention and retention. The child is engaged in his own learning and quickly gains confidence and wants to learn more. At its heart, TAGteach is a communication method that is based on the same science as ABA. It provides another set of tools to allow 2-way communication that gives control and confidence to the child, whether non-verbal or with good language skills.

Risk Free

We know that there are a lot of unproven, pseudo-scientific autism treatments being promoted to parents. The last thing we wanted was to be another of those. That's why we have spent the last 10 years presenting at ABA conferences, showing TAGteach to top experts in autism teaching and behaviour analysis and making sure that parents and practitioners can get good results, before even mentioning this to parents. Click here to download the complete reference list of published and unpublished studies

At a TAGteach seminar you will learn to talk less, teach more and get better results in a shorter time. You will learn to formulate your lessons and instructions for maximum understanding by your child. You will have a ton of fun doing it!

Risk Free - Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back.

"TAGteach is what my father would have wanted for his science"

Julie Vargas PhD (daughter of B.F. Skinner, the father of modern behavioral science)

Build on Success

TAGteach will give you the tools to recognize your child's strengths, start from a point of success, build on tiny successes to build more success, use positive reinforcement to make it fun and keep your child's attention. You will learn to focus on what your child CAN do rather than what he can't do.

Here is a video example of TAGteach in action with a child in an autism school. This shows one of the TAGteach techniques, in which the learner gets to be the teacher. This is a great way to get the child involved and highly focused and to assess his understanding of the goal behavior.

Get a Free Copy of Our Book

If you are an autism parent (or behaviour therapist) and you are having challenges with communicating with your child or managing difficult behaviours, TAGteach can help. If you would like to attend the seminar and try out some TAGteach at home beforehand, we would be pleased to send you a free download of our book by autism parent Martha Gabler: Chaos to Calm: Discovering Solutions to the Everyday Problems of Living with Autism.

You will get the ebook, not the printed book for free. You can try out some of Martha's suggestions and when you come to the seminar you will get the opportunity to brainstorm ways to do even more. The seminar is not focused specifically on autism, but you will learn the principles of TAGteach so as to be able to apply them to your own situation.

On Day 2 of the seminar there will be an opportunity to get input and suggestions from the seminar leader and other attendees on specific issues from everyone.

You can read Martha's book and do some practicing ahead of time and then bring your questions to the seminar and get some input from others on the second day.

If you want a copy of the book, please send an email to joan@tagteach.com once you have registered.

TAGteach and ABA, Precision Teaching and Direct Instruction

The TAGteach method has been used by ABA practitioners and autism parents to teach academic and life skills to children with autism with success not achieved with conventional ABA. TAGteach is based on the same science as ABA and incorporates a sound marker into this proven approach.

TAGteach is a wonderful complement to Precision Teaching and Direct Instruction and is recommended by leading experts in these fields.

TAGteach research has been presented at ABA conferences 32 times over the past 10 years. Click here to download the complete reference list of published and unpublished studies

"It could, and should, be the model for a new approach to assisting families, and will also be of much use to teachers and clinicians.

Martin Kozloff, PhD - Watson Distinguished Professor, Watson College of Education, University of North Carolina Wilmington, Author of ‘Reaching the Autistic Child’ and many other books, Autism Society Professional Advisor

"TAGteach has an important future in the treatment of autism and other developmental delays and this parent has shown the way. I will be recommending the book [Chaos to Calm] to parents and ABA therapists."

Joe Morrow PhDBCBA-D, President, Applied Behavior Consultants, Professor of Psychology and Behavior Analysis (Emeritus), California State University, Sacramento

TAGteach worked for me because I could mark the exact point I need my students to feel in my lessons. My students quickly associated the tag with what I was trying to get them to understand in their technique. It made my instructions that much more effective.

Chad Smith, USPTA Tennis Coach

If you are a teacher, therapist or parent TAGteach will:

  1. Get you results faster, with success at every step
  2. Allow you to communicate very effectively with non-verbal learners
  3. Motivate your learners to cooperate and try their best
  4. Increase enjoyment for both you and your learners
  5. Rescue you from nagging and burn-out
  6. Re-energize your teaching - you will love your job again!

Here is elite level professional golf instructor, Cheryl Anderson, to tell you why TAGteach has forever changed the way she teaches (and she was hugely successful at it already!) and why she recommends TAGteach for everyone:

"TAGteach is going to change the way I teach for the rest of my career. Without a doubt I would recommend this training to everybody. I like that I don’t have to correct them every time. The students are self-correcting because they either hear the tag or they don’t, which is where the true learning happens."

Cheryl Anderson - Director of Instruction, Mike Bender Golf Academy, 2006 National LPGA Teacher of the Year

TAGteach is spreading around the world, providing the missing link for teachers and coaches who have so much knowledge and seek the most effective, efficient and fun way to share it with their learners. TAGteach started with sports, but is now used in hundreds of disciplines ranging from autism to tiny tot ballet lessons to elite physician training in orthopedic surgery. Here are a few examples:

This is our high jump video which gives you an idea of how TAGteach works, how well and how fast:

Tennis anyone? Listen to USPTA tennis coach, Grant Grinnell, tell us how TAGteach helps him to involve the parents, to motivate the kids to try harder, to be able to be way more efficient and to give his learners more value in the time available:

“I love everything about what you've taught me. I love the tag, I love the positive reinforcement. I love no negative connotation. I love the focus of what I need to do and I love the focus of what students can do if they are tagging somebody else. I love everything about it, it's fantastic and I plan on using extensively in my teaching in the future.”

Grant Grinnell, USPTA Tennis Coach

What Will TAGteach Do for My Learners?

Every learner we have met in 10 years of TAGteach around the world loves TAGteach. Why?

  1. It's fun
  2. It lets them focus on their strengths and build on each moment of success
  3. No-one yells at them or tells them what they are doing wrong or even says no to them
  4. They get to be full partners in their own learning
  5. They improve faster than they ever thought possible
  6. They feel happy and confident while they are learning
  7. They get a ton of approval and positive reinforcement from their teacher/coach/parent
"TAGteach allows us to use positive reinforcement while teaching children diagnosed with autism. Preliminary research at ABC, Inc. has shown positive results using TAGteach. Utilizing ABA principles and TAGteach, communication, self-help, play, pre-academic, and gross and fine motor skills have increased. Some examples of skills taught to children with autism by ABC, Inc. using TAGteach include independent hand washing, accurate sign language skills, and vocal imitation lessons. In addition, to increasing positive skills, ABC, Inc. has also used TAG to decrease socially unacceptable behaviors (e.g., toe-walking).TAG significantly increased on-task behaviors throughout teaching sessions."
Applied Behavior Consultants, Inc

"TAGthinking really transforms the way that you approach situations in life and you really become a better person because of it.”

University Student - University of Minnesota Duluth

TAGteach fosters confidence and cooperation and gives you an organized, structured way to teach skills until they become self-reinforcing. Watch this video of a child with Asperger Syndrome having his first swimming lesson. He goes from minimally cooperative to confident independence in a few minutes and one bag of Skittles!

Here are a bunch of kids to tell you about why they like to learn with TAGteach:

Kids are easy you say? They love fun and games and they want to please. Anyone can teach kids. Here are some tough guys with muscles and tattoos who make their living in one of the most dangerous and inhospitable places on earth, the Bering Sea. It's not just about fun for them. It's about running a competitive business and eliminating injuries on the job, with testosterone levels running high and 15 different native languages spoken among the workers. They love TAGteach too:

"We've had problems between management and crew... But this whole year, things have changed because they were treated different, they were treated with more positive. They are more patient when they teach now. That's why the relationship is so much better... It taught me to look at myself every time I train. Never blame the person you are training, but look at you and say  - hey, I need to improve my training."

“I thought this was a great seminar, but I had no idea of how it would change my life."
Anja Rudolf - University of Applied Science, Ingolstadt, Germany
Here is a snippet from a TAGteach Primary Certification Seminar with TAGteach co-founder Theresa McKeon:

What Are People Saying About TAGteach Seminars?

"The seminar was put together in a learner friendly manner, using a wide variety of proven teaching methods. The presenters were knowledgeable and helpful – two key points in presenting so much information to a group of adult learners. I was impressed by the reaction of my employees: engaged in learning, focused, and enthusiastic about the method."
Jane Clark - Director Special Education of County Peoria
A group of young dance teachers talk about their experiences at a TAGteach seminar:

Paula, a violin/viola teacher from Desmoines tells about her impressions after a TAGteach seminar:

Life Lessons from TAGteach

One of the most common things we hear from seminar is attendees is "this is going to change my life". The TAGteach principles are far-reaching and apply to every aspect of dealing with other people (and even yourself) in daily life.

Listen to these university students explain how learning and teaching with TAGteach changed the way they look at life:

"And so I introduced the concept of TAG thinking to my students. I think the best part about it is that it has taught the dancers to be very active, thinking learners rather than passive, “teach me, teacher” machines... Since integrating TAGteaching and TAG Thinking, every day in the classroom is exhilarating for me. I have seen so many young people find their confidence and personal voices, not only as artists, but also, more importantly, as human beings."
Ann Bergeron MFA - Morse-Alumni Distinguished Professor of Theater and Dance at the University of Minnesota Duluth
